What Maggie’s future could be
A FUTURE BONDING WITH OTHER FEMALE AFRICAN ELEPHANTS IN A WARM CLIMATE WITH ROOM TO RANGE & EXPLORE.
DID YOU KNOW THAT FEMALE AFRICAN ELEPHANTS NEVER LIVE ALONE?
DID YOU KNOW THAT ELEPHANTS NEVER LIVE IN THE SUB-ARCTIC?
Four wonderful institutions have offered to consider taking Maggie at no cost to the Alaska Zoo
North Carolina Zoo, Asheboro, NC
Oakland Zoo, Oakland, CA
The Elephant Sanctuary, Hohenwald, TN
PAWS Sanctuary, San Andreas, CA
Each of these premier zoos and sanctuaries offer Maggie a home with
A herd of female African elephants
A hospitable year-round climate
Daily access to multiple acres of meadows and woods, mud holes, ponds and dust wallows
These premier zoos and sanctuaries offer superb veterinary care, comprehensive enrichment, experienced staff, and benign managementno bullhooks, no hotshots and no chains. These institutions have experience in elephant transport, including international transport of elephants. All of them are experienced in introducing new elephants to their herds.
FRIENDS OF MAGGIE SUBMITTED THESE OFFERS IN WRITING TO ALASKA ZOO IN APRIL 2004.
ALASKA ZOO SAID “NO!” AND WHAT IS ALASKA ZOO’S VISION OF MAGGIE’S FUTURE?
MAGGIE GETS TO SPEND 40 MORE YEARS BY HERSELF IN THE SUB-ARCTIC CONFINED FOR MONTHS ON END IN A CEMENT BARN ON A TREADMILL….
Friends of Maggie does not share Alaska Zoo’s cold, dark, mechanical vision.
Please write to the officials listed on Take Action page and express your support for a warm, bright, natural future for Maggie at one of the four outstanding institutions that has generously offered to take her.
